Sam Gold’s work begins at the surface—where skin meets clay, where pressure leaves a mark. Through ceramics shaped by touch, heat, and restraint, Gold traces queer ways of knowing: slow, bodily, attentive.
Gold (they/them) is a trans non-binary ceramic artist based on Kaurna Yarta (Adelaide Plains). They work where queer ecologies, somatic knowledge, and the politics of touch rub up against one another. Their practice approaches clay as a responsive body—yielding, resistant, marked by contact—where care is enacted through pressure, patience, and closeness.
Sam has garnered increasing national recognition in recent years; including winning the Wollongong Art Prize and being selected in numerous local and national awards. They have exhibited widely, including Primavera: Young Australian Artists 2021 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, and are currently a tenant at Mixed Goods Studios.
Their work has entered a growing number of public collections, including the Artbank collection, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Powerhouse Museum of Applied Arts and Science, Wollongong Regional Art Gallery, and private collections.
