BIG HAG NRG

30 October - 29 November 2025

Exhibition Statement

Big Hag NRG reclaims the figure of the hag as an older woman who sits beyond the usefulness of patriarchy and is therefore powerful, unruly, and free. The exhibition gathers spell-objects that appear still, yet are charged with action, energy, and presence.

At its centre is Big Hag NRG, an installation of thirty velvet hands, the artists own, cut, stuffed, and stitched in various colours, each marked with a silk circle at its centre. Arranged on opposite walls, the hands resemble a giant reiki session: transmitting energy across the room, their charge activated by the artist prior to install. To enter the space, visitors pass through Lucky Hag (in the doorway), a velvet text work with cascading silk ribbons. Spritzed with four-leaf-clover water, the ribbons brush against the body so that all who cross the threshold are touched, and blessed, by the hag.

The exhibition also includes Things Observed In The Space Between Two Full Moons, a process work made from daily observation, and Helping To Keep Soft Power At the Forefront, a pink velvet text piece encircled with lights and adorned with bells, bay leaves, and dried rose buds, is an ongoing invocation.

Together these works propose objects as spellwork in that they are not passive, but active, transmitting, blessing, and protecting.
